Beyra Matos, Angela y Adelaida Barreto Valdés.
Abstract.
Acta Bot. Cub. 103:1-16 diciembre, 1994.
Beyra Matos, Angela y Adela Cárdenas Alvarez.
Abstract.

Beyra Matos, Angela y Adelaida Barreto Valdés.
Abstract.
Acta Bot. Cub. 106:1-13 diciembre, 1994.
Barreto Valdés, Adelaida; Olga Medina Torres y Nestor Enríquez Salgueiro.
Abstract. L.

Izquierdo, Irma; María J. Garcia y Julia Azcuy.
Abstract. The influence over the inoculation with strains of micorrhizal arbuscular fungi in the upon the taking of the soil macronutrients (NPK) as well as their assimilation by mandarino Cleopatra (Citrus reshni Hort. ex Tan.) in nurseries is evaluated. A ferralitic red soil without organic and chemistry enmandation, with pH=7.1 were used. The analysis of the nutritional contents and their relationship with other evaluated items permitted to corroborate the effectiveness of the arbuscular micorrhizae (AM). As it regards the phosphorus adsorption we may say, that it was possible to observe several increase of this element in inoculated plant with Glomus mosseae and Glomus intraradices. It migth be observed and outstanding an increased of level the N, P and K nutrients in inoculated plants with Glomus spurcum and Glomus agreggatum followed by Glomus manihotis. Due to the efficiency of these strains of AM fungi, some considerations about of their application migth be established, with more use perpectives for the development of this citric pattern.

Abstract. MicoFert(r) is the comercial name used in Cuba for the VA mycorrhizal inocula. The aplication of six VAM fungal strains (Agricultural MicoFert(r), on growth of citrus seedlings cultivated in a nursery was evaluated during 19 months. As a roostock Cleopatra mandarin (Citrus reshni Hort. ex Tan) was cultivated on Red Ferralitic soil without organic amendment, pH=7.1. This trial was developed in the Citrus Enterprise "Ceiba del Agua" from May 1992 to December 1993. Different parameters were estimated after 17 months growth period as follows: height; leaves, stem, roots and rootlets dry weigths; and nutrient contents (NPK) in soil. Mycorrhizae were assessed as the colonization percentage and "visual density" of VA endophytes. After 19 months growth, photosynthetic and transpiration rates, in addition to folial conductancy were measured. Glomus aggregatum, G. manihotis, and G. spurcum significantly influenced citrus growth and photosynthesis. The results confirm the advantage of using MicoFert(r) in citrus murseries. Seeedling survival improvement and saving of three months growth period was shown for citrus nurseries when MicoFert(r) was used. In addition, the utilization of MicoFert(r) represent a saving of 140 000 Cuban Pesos per million of inoculated seedlings.
Acta Bot. Cub. 112:1-8 mayo, 1998.
Rodríguez, María E. y Ana A. Socarras.
Abstract. Two forest types: semideciduous and microphyllous evergreen; and two pasture areas on old dunes were studied at the Biosphere Reserve of Guanahacabibes at the occidental part of Cuba. The biological activity and cellullolitic activity as well as mesofauna community composition were studied, comparing soil and soil under the cattle's dung. Soil (0-10cm) under dungs showed a higher C-mineralization and cellullolitic activity which was also influenced by soil humidity. A variation of the mesofauna community structure with a higher amount of Astigmata among the Acari groups in the dungs soil was also observed. A counting and classification of dungs was performed according to their decomposition status by means of transects on all areas. Between 40 and 75% of dungs presented germinated seeds in forests and 7-28% in pastures. Rootlets invading the dungs were observed in 50-100% and in 15-67% of the forests and pastures dungs, respectively. The results showed the ecological role of cattle dungs on the function of ecosystems.

Sánchez Rendon, Jorge A.; Eric Calvo; Barbara Muñoz y Ramón Orta.
Abstract. The present work determined the correlation existing between the different types of seeds of Diospyros philippensis, (Desr.) Guercke and its germinative response on different leves of temperature of substratum and this stored. The seed were classified in two categories of size (morphs I and II), according with their presences in fruits. In each morph it was determined: lenght, width, thickes, fresh weight, dry weight, humidity content and percent of germination. All the parameters differ between morph. The morphological variability shows a clear relationshisp with its germinative response. The major percent of germination in both morphs had at 25°C. The bigger seed (morph I), had the major percent of germination. In both morphs the temperature affected the seeds viability.
Acta Bot. Cub. 116:1-7 diciembre, 1998.
Hernández, Luis; Jorge A. Sánchez y Jesús Lazo.
Abstract. The spatial characterization of the underground biomass have been studied in the pastures with Cynodon nlemfuensis predominance, in area of the Institute of Annimal Sciences. For vertical distribution the samples were taken with soil monolith of 12.3 cm of diameter-in profiles from 0 to 95 cm of depth- and 5.0 cm for the horizontal distribution. The components of the underground biomass were classificated in roots rhizomes and detritus. The roots according to their diameters were divided in fine root (<0.02mm). intermediate root (from 0.2 to 0.5mm) and coarse root (>0.05mm). The major concentration of underground biomass was found in the layer o to 15 cm, downard the underground biomass disminishes together with depth. The 75% of the total underground biomass was in 0 to 15 cm layer, and the porcentaje of root, rhizomes and detritus in it was 42.8, 25.2 and 32.0%, respectively, the fine root represented 30.7% from the total biomass. The horizontal distribution of the underground biomass components was affect by soil variability and gramineaus species arrangement. The fine root porcentaje (beteween 26 and 48%) shaved the principal variability of the root biomass.

Ruiz, Margarita; Sara Herrera; Hugo Iglesias; Jorge L. Ortiz y Teresa Cabrera.
Abstract. The advantages of the spores utilization of Pisolithus tinctorius as effective inoculum in the growth and development of Pinus caribaea are discurssed. A comparison between the traditional inoculation method used in nurseries in Cuba, and the utilization of spores and vegetative micelium of these mycorrhizal fungi was accomplished, being obtained the better results for spores as inoculum. Besides, it was demonstrated that, to inoculation effects, the spores should have not more than 2 years of storage, if optimal results are to be obtained in nursery production.
Acta Bot. Cub. 120:1-8 diciembre, 1998.
Ruiz, Margarita; Irma Izquierdo; Ana Ma. Sotolongo; Bertha Sandrino y Marta Lescaille.
Abstract. A comparative study in different casuarina populations was developed with the objective of determine the mortality possible causes of some of them. Five soil cores and green leaves samples were collected in each case. Mycorrhizal indexes like colonization percentage, occupancy and endophyte were evaluated as well as rootless and nodules biomass. Nutrient foliage and nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium soil contents were also measured. The results suggest that unbalance between occupancy-rootless ratio and nutrients relationships, as well as aeration and soil pollution could be the reason why a functional unbalance was found in casuarina plants in the most disturbed areas.
Acta Bot. Cub. 121:1-8 diciembre, 1998.
Orta Cruz, Ramón; Jorge A. Sánchez Rendon; Barbara Muñoz y Eric Calvo.
Abstract. The pregerminative hydration-dehydration treatments had proved to be effectives to reinvigorate old seeds, to acelerate and to make uniform the germination of the lots or resistence enhance of the plants resulting the environmental stress; effects known as: reinvigoration, priming or hardening, respectively, based on the partial hydration hold in the time, followed of a process of dehydration before the sowing. These methods, they're though effectives, had not been used in the international agricultural practice, due to that the imbibition solutions proposes must contain polymers that act perfect osmotic and permit the partial imbibition for potential's equilibrium of seed-solutions a during a determined time. We had developed a model of imbibition a successive hydration-dehydration cicle in pure water, used the time like barrier to partial imbibition and not the osmotic potencial of the solution. This model is economic, single and we got similar results to the one in the references.

Abstract. Treasure lagoon, the largest freshwater natural reservoir in Cuba, has shown changes in macrophytes species diversity recently. Fron 18 species in 1973, belonging to four plant associations, only three species were recorded in 1996, which belong to Nymphaetum amplae Borhidi et Muñiz. A mortality of Typha domingensis (Pers.) Kunth and the growth of small trees of Rhizophora mangle L. close to the macrophyte belt was observed. Natural and antropic causes of these changes are analized.
Acta Bot. Cub. 132:1-4 diciembre, 1999.
Rodriguez, Maria E. y Stella Gordienko.
Abstract. Humus fractioning was done using Tiurin technique modified by Ponomariova-Plotnikova. Natural vegetation sites in different succsessional stages and spoil heaps (15 year) were compared. FA predominate in this Ferritic soil (Ferralsol), representing more than 70% of soil carbon. Humines were also high. Second fraction (joint to Ca-Mg) in FA and HA was absent even in the natural forest but was present in the site with grasses and pinus plus latifolious vegetation in successional stage. Those elements are practically absent from this soil, so it means not only a better humus quality but an advantage to the establishment of secondary plant species that will prevent erosion and leaching strongly affecting soils in Moa conditions.
Acta Bot. Cub. 133:1-8 diciembre, 1999.
Ruiz, Margarita; Ainel Valdes y Ricardo Herrera.
Abstract. pH effect on the behaviour of 10 strains of Glomales inoculated to tomato plants (cv Roma; VFP-93) was tested. Plants were fed with Long Ashton solution adjusted with NaOH in order to get the three pH levels used in the experiment (4.5; 6.5; 7.3). A marked effect on fungi growth was obtained by using these three pH levels which had a significant influence on biomass and mycorrhizal parameters. The hypothesis of Herrera et al. (1997) concerning the existence of strains having Austere or Exuberant behaviour was confirmd. Thus, the larger biomass yield in Glomus aggregatum, G. caledonium and G. sp. (Austere) were caused by the external mycelium whereas endophytes and mycorrhizal colonization rendered a biomass increase in the most Exuberant strains (G. intraradices, G. mosseae (IES-13) and G. tunicatum).
Acta Bot. Cub. 134:1-8 diciembre, 1999.
García, Ma. Julia y Jorge A. Sánchez.
Abstract. The effect of the application of six types of Agricultural MicoFert(r), AMF, on the growth of citric plants cultivated in nurseries condition was evaluated. The rootstock employed was mandarino Cleopatra (Citrus reshni Hort. ex Tan). The obtained results from the growth and mycorrhizal indicators were processed through principal components analysis. All the growth variables except rootlets dry weight and mycorrhizal colonization presented meaningful correlation within each group of variables but they are mutually indepedent. The plants inoculated with the types of AMF IES-2 (Glomus manihotis) and IES-4 (G. aggregatum) reached the maximun growth values and minimal of mycorrhizal colonization what demonstrated the efficiency of them.
Dependencia Micorrízica de Seis Leguminosas Arbóreas Tropicales. Acta Bot. Cub. 135:1-12 diciembre, 1999.
Orozco, M.O., R. A. Herrera, E. Furrazola, L. Lastres y Y. Torres.
Abstract. Mycorrizal depencencies of six topical woody legumes: Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) De Wit., Delonix regia (Bojer) Raf., Albizzia lebbeck (L) Benth, Caesalpinea violacea (Mill) Standl., Albizzia procera Benth y Andira inermis (Sw) HBK was study. Plants were inoculated with native VAM from two different soils collected from a primary evergreen forest plot (FO) or its neighbor road slope (RS) showing a pseudoclimax early successional vegetation. Experiments lasted 18 weeks in greenhouse conditions. At the end of the trial seven variables were quantified: shoot dry mass (SDM); root dry mass (RDM); VA mycorrhizal dependency (DM); number of nodules per plant (No.Nod.), nodule dry mass per plants (NDM), mycorrhizal root colonization percentage (% CM) and vesicular arbuscular external mycelium mycomasses (AEM). Additionally some seeds characteristics from the plants tested were calculated: seed size, seed dry mass, dry mass of seminal reserves, and dry mass of seed coats. The results showed that in general for five plant species tested all the variables recorded were higher and significantly different when the plants were inoculated with RS soil. That means a better Glomalean fungal fitness present in RS inocula in comparison with FO soil inocula. In the case of Andira inermis (Sr.) HBK with a big seed, data showed that this species was more dependent from cotyledon reserves so that negative values of DEP indicate no benefit effects of VAM. A natural nodulation level was found in three of the six species tested. It is interesting to note that the non-inoculated controls (non-mycorrhizae, only leaching added) never presented nodulation. It is an evidence of synergistic effect between VAM inocula and Rhizobium bacteria. RS produced also a higher nodule stimulation.
Acta Bot. Cub. 136:1-12 diciembre, 1999.
Ferrás Alvarez, Hermen; Antonio López Almirall; Ana Martell García; Avelino G. Suárez Rodríguez.
Abstract. A study using geographic information system (gis) and multivariate analysis tools was made to obtain the relation between the climatic variables and the floristic composition of the different phytogeografic districts of cuba. a negative correlation between the precipitations and the aridity index of the studied region was obtained as result. the analysis of the means changes in the temperature and precipitation regime predicted by the applied general circulation models allows us to predict the possible variation in the composition of the natural vegetation as consequence of these changes.
Acta Bot. Cub. 137:1-12 diciembre, 1999.
Ferrás Alvarez, Hermen; Francisco Lopez; Francisco Acosta; Ana Martell García; Avelino G. Suárez.
Abstract. A microcomputer model to simulate the functioning of tropical evergreen forest was elaborated. To reach this goal were modified and adapted rainforest simulation models. As result of the modeling we obtained that the tropical forest overtakes rapidly the optimal value of biomass, keeping after that around it. On the other hand, the augmentation of the atmosferic CO2 concentration produces the increase of the ecosystem's primary production and the growth of it's total biomass.
